APAP's ArtsForward was made possible with generous support from the Mellon Foundation. This program supported the presenting and touring field’s safe, vibrant, and equitable reopening and recovery as presenters, artists and audiences reconnected, tours resumed, and venues reopened.

The APAP ArtsForward program is comprised of several components:
ArtsForward provided grants to APAP presenting members and partner artists/ensembles and offered services and resources to the field at large. Inspired by working groups in the performing arts, including APAP’s Ethical and Equitable Partnership Working Group, ArtsForward supported the field in resuming programming and touring in a manner that supported presenters and artists.

About APAP ArtsForward

1. About the Grants Program

The APAP ArtsForward program awarded $2.065 million in 47 grants of $50,000 and $35,000 to APAP presenting organizations working in partnership with an artist or ensemble. As venues reopen, tours resume, and audiences reconnect, these grants fuel collaborations between APAP presenter members and partnering artists/ensembles.

2. Reopening Survey and Webinar Series

On February 9, 2022, APAP launched the APAP ArtsForward Reopening Survey with research partner AMS Planning & Research. The important, eight month-long initiative has gathered invaluable longitudinal data from performing arts presenters, venues, agents/managers, producers and artists and tracked fieldwide trends in reopening and resuming programming, booking and touring activities. The resulting report will provide the industry with national and regional data to inform decision making as presenters, producers, artists and audiences reconnect, work resumes, tours restart and venues reopen with full attendance capacity.
