Arts workers are essential, and now more than ever, it's important that the world understands our unique stories and that we better understand ourselves.

Framed by the pandemic, the racial reckoning and the great resignation, we want to illuminate what it is like to be an arts worker and to amplify your untold stories.

For that reason, APAP is introducing a podcast this summer titled Arts. Work. Life.

Arts. Work. Life. is a podcast about what it's like to work in the performing arts, featuring stories from artists and arts workers like YOU, behind-the-scenes and up close. The podcast is produced by the Association of Performing Arts Professionals with the support of the Wallace Foundation.

Do you have a story to tell? APAP wants to hear your stories! Learn more about the stories we seek and how you can submit your story idea here by the priority deadline of May 9, 2022 . Selected storytellers will work with a podcast producer, and those whose stories are selected and aired will receive a $200 honorarium.

The podcast will feature first-person narratives about a personal experience related to life as an arts worker. APAP invites you to submit specific story ideas centered on your lived experience about working in the performing arts.

For example, your story can be about, but is NOT limited to:

    • Work/life balance, mental health and self-care
    • REDI (racial equity, diversity, and inclusion)
    • Compensation
    • Hiring and retention
    • Working in a post-pandemic world
    • Life on the road (or not on the road)
    • Gig work
    • Being a [fill in the blank] in the arts workplace
    • The untold stories of working in the arts!
